A Story Idea Each Day for a Month — Day 20
As they say on “Law & Order,” this one is ripped from the headlines: “Ailing Mississippi Farmer to Oprah: ‘I am your father’”:
An ailing, 84-year-old World War II veteran is making a desperate plea to Oprah Winfrey: Please admit I’m your father!
Norh Robinson, a dirt-poor Mississippi farmer now living in a rural Veterans Affairs hospital, wants Oprah to submit to a paternity test that he says would once and for all prove that he fathered her in 1954.
Robinson said he dreams of just once speaking with Oprah as father and daughter before he dies — and revealed that, years ago, he tried to reach the talk-show queen to beg her to agree to a DNA test.
A spokeswoman told the Post that Oprah wasn’t available to comment on Robinson’s claims.
This is a reverse dynamic from the story idea yesterday, where a celeb plucks a Regular Joe out of obscurity and lays 15-minutes of fame on them. Here a Regular Joe thrusts his/herself into the celeb’s life, potentially to muck things up.
This could be a drama, perhaps leading to a big trial to determine paternity.
Or a comedy where polar opposites are forced to connect as father-daughter.
Or even a thriller. Celeb doesn’t want bad publicity. Tries to buy off unwanted parent. Parent declines. Celeb’s people hire ‘goons’ to scare off the parent. That backfires when parent decides to get some revenge — on the celeb’s people and the celeb.
