Another contained thriller: “Lebanon”

Received a note GITS reader Nigel Anderson about another contained thriller Lebanon (2009):

from today’s UK Guardian film reviews, “Lebanon” — filmed entirely in a tank, which reminded the reviewer of Hitchcock’s “Lifeboat” filmed entirely in…. a lifeboat.

From the Guardian review:

There have been a number of Israeli films about the 1982 military incursion into Lebanon and its traumatic consequences for all involved, most notably the devastating animated film, Waltz With Bashir. The most visceral, however, is Lebanon, winner of the Golden Lion at Venice last year and, like all of them, based on personal experiences. It is set entirely within a tank [emphasis added] manned by four inexperienced conscripts — the insecure commander, Asi; the trigger-unhappy gunner, Shmulik; the driver, Yigal, youngest of them and forever worrying about his elderly parents; and the loader, Herzel. Their real chief is Gamil, an experienced infantry officer who treats them with contempt.

Looks like a gripping film. Has anybody screened it?

But for any of you who were planning on writing a contained thriller in a tank… you can pretty much scratch that off the list.

We have a review of the film from one of our contributors who was highly impressed. Lebanon is currently on release in the UK but difficult to track down and will probably only last another week or so.
