Comic-Con 2010: Day 4 (7/25) schedule announced
The Comic-Con 2010 Day 3 scheduled has just been released today. Here are some sessions that look to be relevant to the craft of writing and storytelling:
10:00–11:00 Spotlight on Rick Riordan — Comic-Con special guest Rick Riordan discusses his blockbuster book series Percy Jackson & the Olympians as well as his recently released The Kane Chronicles series and the upcoming all-new The Heroes of Olympus series. Join Rick for this one-on-one interview and Q&A session! Room 6A
10:00–11:00 Smallville Screening and Q&A — Comic-Con favorite Smallville returns for its last visit to Comic-Con in advance of the show’s 10th and final season, as showrunners Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson join star/executive producer Tom Welling and series stars Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, and Justin Hartley to talk about the year ahead, answer fan questions, and give an exclusive sneak peek at clips from the final season. From Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink in association with Warner Bros. Television, Smallville airs Fridays at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. Smallville: The Complete Ninth Season will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 7. Ballroom 20

10:30–11:30 ABC’s Castle: Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic — Up close and personal with actors Nathan Fillion (Firefly) and Stana Katic (Quantum of Solace), creator Andrew Marlowe (Air Force One), and executive producers Rob Bowman (X-Files) and Laurie Zaks. 11:00–12:00 Marvel: The Women of Marvel — One of the most talked-about panels from last year is back! Forget Storm and She-Hulk; meet the real Ms. Marvels of the comic world! Say goodbye to the so-called “Boy’s Club” — these ladies are busting down the four-color ceiling! 11:00–12:00 Entertaining One’s Inner Child — Ever since Harry Potter burst onto the scene, children’s books have been taking over the bestseller lists. Creators discuss the thrills and challenges of creating memorable characters for the younger set. Panelists include Jimmy Gownley (Amelia Rules), Sina Grace (Among the Ghosts), Matt Holm (Babymouse), Adam Rex (Fat Vampire), David Steinberg (Daniel Boom), Greg Van Eekhout (Kid Vs. 11:15–12:15 Supernatural Screening and Q&A — Cast members, executive producers Sera Gamble (Eyes) and Ben Edlund (Angel), and creator/executive producer Eric Kripke (Boogeyman) present an exclusive sneak peek at footage from the highly anticipated sixth season of Supernatural, which moves to a new day, Fridays at 9pm ET/PT on The CW this fall. The panel will answer questions from the audience and also show a portion of the special features from the upcoming Supernatural: The Complete Fifth Season DVD and Blu-ray release, in stores September 7. 12:00–1:00 Spotlight on Dennis O’Neil — One of comics’ most legendary writer/editors, Comic-Con special guest Dennis O’Neil is best known for his work on Batman. O’Neil’s long career includes writing and editing at Marvel and guiding the Caped Crusader at DC Comics for many years. Dennis will talk about his career and what’s up next for this fan-favorite creator. WildStorm’s Scott Peterson moderates. Room 25ABC
12:30–1:30 The Funny Stuff: Humor in Comics and Graphic Novels — The world of comics isn’t just about dark and mysterious superheroes. There are a lot of great funny books out there. The Cartoon Art Museum’s Andrew Farago talks to Comic-Con special guests Peter Bagge (Hate), Howard Cruse (Wendel), Nicholas Gurewitch (The Perry Bible Fellowship), Keith Knight (The K Chronicles), Larry Marder (Beanworld), and Doug TenNapel (Monster Zoo) about the humorous side of comics. 1:00–2:00 Spotlight on Al Wiesner — This writer/artist has been doing it his way for 25 years! Comic-Con special guest Al Wiesner created his own superhero, Shaloman, after many years of searching for a Jewish superhero. Some 38 issues later the “Kosher Crusader” is still thrilling readers around the world! Al talks about his series in this special Spotlight panel. Room 4
1:00–2:00 Nickelodeon’s The Troop: A Monster a Day Is All We Ask! — Ever wonder what happens inside the sacred walls of a comedy writers’ room? Or how they come up with all those cool monsters and action sequences? How they are able to blend comedy, action, and scares all in 22 minutes? The creators and executive producers of The Troop give you an exclusive inside look into the inner workings of this cult comedy/horror hit. Executive producer Tommy Lynch (Alex Mack), executive producer Jay Kogen (The Simpsons), show creators Max Burnett (Possums) and Greg Coolidge (Employee of the Month), and the entire writing staff will divulge their secrets to the show in addition to sharing never-before-seen footage of the upcoming season. 1:30–2:30 Spotlight on Douglas E. Richards — Comic-Con special guest Douglas E. Richards is the author of The Prometheus Project series — science fiction thrillers that have been widely acclaimed by kids, adults, and SF fans alike (including Asimov’s Science Fiction magazine). Douglas has also written extensively for National Geographic KIDS and American Fencing magazines. Bring your kids and join Douglas as he gives a fun and engaging presentation that has delighted students at middle grade assemblies. Douglas will touch on the secret to happiness, fiction plotting and writing, continuity errors, a behind-the-scenes look at his books, and more — followed by a Q&A. Room 3
1:30–2:30 The Winner Twins — The Winner Twins, Brianna and Brittany (authors of The Strand book series), America’s youngest multiple-award-winning authors announce that their first book in the Strand Series, The Strand Prophecy, is now in development as a major motion picture. They will be discussing their method of writing novels and adapting content for television and film production in Hollywood. Joining the Winner Twins are panelists Mike Greenfield (Beverly Hills Talent Management), Mickey Stern (CEO, BASE Productions), Eric Gozlan (Shivita Films), Jack Hozel (Shivita Films), and Jeff Winner (author). 2:00–3:00 “The Batman Dreams of Hieronymus Machines,” or The Matt Fraction Spotlight Panel — Comic-Con special guest Matt Fraction (Casanova, Invincible Iron Man, Uncanny X-Men, The Mighty Thor) performs “The Batman Dreams of Hieronymus Machines,” a weird spoken-word history of comics, art, and his own experiences with both and how comics — and art — can save your life. Also: Bruce Lee, cave paintings, Stilt-Man, and profound brain injuries. First performed as a part of W00tstock 2.0, now it’s coming to San Diego! Then, after that, probably a discussion and some Q&A and stuff moderated by Bill Hader (SNL, Paul, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World). Room 7AB
2:30–3:30 Archaia: All-Ages — All-ages books are not necessarily children’s books — they’re books that readers of all ages can enjoy! 2:45–3:45 X: Sons of Anarchy and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia — Appearing at Comic-Con for the first time is Sons of Anarchy, with series stars Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal (Futurama), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Beauty and the Beast) and series creator Kurt Sutter. Next up is It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia with Charlie (Charlie Day), Mac (Rob McElhenney), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Sweet Dee (Kaitlin Olson), and Frank (Danny DeVito), the self-centered owners of Paddy’s Pub in Philadelphia who will do just about anything — no matter how reprehensible — in an attempt to better their own situation.
