Grandpa: Richard, whatever happens — at least you tried to do something on your own, which is more than most people ever do. I include myself in that category. You took a big chance, it took guts, and I’m proud of you, okay?
Richard: Okay, Dad. Thanks.

UPDATE: There have been so many suggestions for notable father-son conversations, I’m tempted to run the theme for one more week. Any other suggestions you have, please post in comments. The following week, we should do mother-daughter or mother-son conversations. It think that’s Mother’s Day week anyway. Taking those suggestions, too.
