Daily Dialogue — December 20, 2010

“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid. Merry Christmas! Ho, ho, ho!”

 — Santa Claus (Jeff Gillen), A Christmas Story (1983), screenplay by Jean Shepherd & Leigh Brown & Bob Clark, based on a novel by Jean Shepherd

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is Christmas. A Christmas Story suggested by Ferdinand. As Ferdinand pointed out in comments, the “shoot your eye out” line is a callback that is repeated several times.

Trivia: Jean Shepherd writer/narrator, is the irate man waiting in the Santa line at the department store. The woman standing behind Shepherd is his wife, Leigh Brown.
