Daily Dialogue — December 22, 2011

“Hey! If any of you are looking for any last-minute gift ideas for me, I have one. I’d like Frank Shirley, my boss, right here tonight. I want him brought from his happy holiday slumber over there on Melody Lane with all the other rich people and I want him brought right here, with a big ribbon on his head, and I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake-licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood-sucking, dog-kissing, brainless, dickless, hopeless, heartless, fat-ass, bug-eyed, stiff-legged, spotty-lipped, worm-headed sack of monkey shit he is! Hallelujah! Holy shit! Where’s the Tylenol?”

— Clark (Chevy Chase), National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, written by John Hughes

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is Christmas conflict. Today’s suggestion by David Proenza.

Trivia: The movie is based on John Hughes’ short story “Christmas ‘59”, the second Vacation story to be published in National Lampoon’s Magazine (the first was “Vacation ‘58”, which was the basis for the first Vacation movie). The Christmas story was printed in December 1980. The label on the home movie reel that Clark finds in the attic is labeled “Xmas ‘59,” a further allusion.

Dialogue On Dialogue: This is a great example of achieving humor by piling it on, a total of 22 descriptors leading up to the noun “monkey shit.”
