Duane: What’d the twins do?

Karla: Julie posed for a naked Polaroid for some sixth grader, and Jack crawled up in the rafters of the shit-house and dropped a brick on the toilet, and the toilet broke which pretty much flooded things, they said they’d appreciate it if you’d come down, and where were you all night while I was going crazy?

— Duane (Jeff Bridges), Karla (Annie Potts), Texasville (1990), screenplay by Peter Bogdanovich, based on a novel by Larry McMurtry

The Daily Dialogue theme for the week is delivering bad news, suggested by Saint716, who also suggested Texasville.

Trivia: Though this is the only cinematic sequel to The Last Picture Show, Duane Jackson (Moore in the books) and the small town of Analene (Thalia in the books) were the subject of three more novels by Larry McMurtry: Duane’s Depressed, When The Light Goes, and Rhino Ranch.

Dialogue On Dialogue: The whole scene is well worth watching as Karla is circumnavigating chaos on all fronts, a terrific performance by Annie Potts.
