Daily Dialogue theme for next week???

As we wrap up a week’s worth World War II dialogue, here are three suggestions for themes already on the board:

Character introductions [Deaf Ears]: The thing to look for there is distinctive and interesting ways a character gets introduced through dialogue. If we can come up with seven of those, that would also be a good exercise as character introductions are a recurring challenge for screenwriters.

Malaprops [Bill Weinberger]: This could be a good one assuming we can aggregate 7 examples.

Incidental dialogue [churnage]: Could be interesting if we focused it on exposition through electronic media. This is yet another one of those challenges we face pretty regularly: How to convey important information in the ‘background’ via TV, radio, telephone, etc.

Of course, I’m open to other suggestions for a Daily Dialogue theme as well. I’m especially interested in areas where we can cite examples, then burrow into them to learn something for our own writing. As we’ve seen with something as mundane as hotel check-ins, these can be crafted to be entertaining as well.

For example, what about a policeman interacting with a civilian after stopping them in their car or on the street? Meeting with a lawyer. Funerals. Assuming we have a good run at writing stories over the course of time, we are almost bound to run into some of these type of situations. What can we learn to make them interesting, stand-out moments crackling with interesting dialogue?
