Find your story by developing your characters!
Characters are the heart and soul of your story. Doesn’t it make sense that your narrative’s structure should evolve from who they are — their goals, their desires, their wants and needs?
In addition the more time you spend going into your characters, the more likely you will surface unique aspects of their personalities, enabling you to see them more clearly in your imagination and hear their voices to feed your ability to write dialogue.
With both of these in mind, starting Monday, July 11th, I will be leading a brand new 2-week online Screenwriting Master Class workshop: Prep: Character Development. It offers a unique approach that not only enables you to deepen your understanding of your characters, it also helps you to find your story.
We start with five character archetypes: Protagonist, Nemesis, Attractor, Mentor, Trickster. Using them as a lens through which to look at your story’s primary characters, we go through a series of writing exercises to drill down to the core essence of your characters and explore their interrelationships, focusing on their respective narrative functions.
Our study script for the lecture component of the workshop is The Dark Knight, so if you’re a fan of that movie, this is also a great opportunity to dig deeper into it.

I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
