“Handling Exposition”

Starting next Monday, I’ll be offering a 1-week online screenwriting course through Screenwriting Master Class called “Handling Exposition.”In Hollywood, there is a saying: “Exposition = Death.” That reflects the fact that nothing kills drama and/or the momentum of a script more than poorly executed exposition. A pair of talking heads using dialogue to convey facts, data, information…

I almost dozed off writing that sentence… that’s how bad exposition can be! And yet, every story we write by necessity has exposition. Typically lots of it.

Do you really know how to handle exposition?

In the 1-week class I’ll be teaching next week, we will break down exposition into various types, then by looking at numerous examples from well known movies and screenplays, see key principles in action on how to best handle facts, data, information, etc.

The class involves short daily written lectures, online forum discussions, and a 1-hour teleconference to discuss course content as well as screenwriting in general.

Perhaps best of all is the cost: The class is only $95.
