From Montreuil’s Wikipedia page, there’s this:
His newest work, “The Raven”- shortmovie was developed on April, 21st 2010. Story: “Chris Black possesses a power that could lead to the destruction of the current regime, and they will stop at nothing to destroy him.”
The short film is essentially one long chase sequence. Narrative elements reminiscent of Blade Runner, Star Wars (the Raven’s use of the ‘force’), Robocop. Am I missing some?
I think there are several elements at play here re potential Hollywood interest: (1) ‘Shiny object disease’ where studio execs enjoy watching post effects; (2) Mythology of $5,000 budget: Visual FX for next to no money is even more enticing to a studio, however clearly Montreuil, like Alvarez with “Panic Attack” didn’t include in their PR in-house costs at post facilities; (3) Alvarez, Rinsch (“The Gift”), and Montreuil all hail from countries outside the U.S., and that adds a ‘fresh’ factor to the narrative surrounding their projects; (4) Science fiction is hot.
