“Malkovich’s Mail”
I’ve received numerous Tweets and emails the last few days about a documentary called “Malkovich’s Mail.” It’s available (at least for now) on YouTube. Here is the description of the project:
This hour long pilot for AMC takes a look at the bizarre solicitations received by John Malkovichs production company and traces them back to the screenwriters who sent them. Written and directed by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe. These are the same guys who made “Lost in La Mancha.” Check them out at lowkeypictures.com.
Low Key Pictures is Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe. Fulton and Pepe have been writing and directing feature and documentary films together since 1995.
Fulton is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and holds a B.A. in Art History from Haverford College and an MFA in Film Production from Temple University. He is a fellow of the Sundance Institute’s Writer’s Lab. Fulton has recently turned down an offer to host next year’s Academy Awards™ ceremony.
Pepe was born in Philadelphia and holds a B.A.in Computer Science and Film Studies from M.I.T. and an MFA from Temple University. He is a fellow of the Sundance Institute’s Directing Lab. Pepe most recently directed a Los Angeles stage production of Tennessee Williams’ “Orpheus Descending,” starring Gale Harold and Denise Crosby.
My guess is if you watch this doc and you are an aspiring screenwriter, you’ll get depressed. Just seeing stacks of rejection letters can do that to you. Nowadays these sorts of queries are almost all done via email so at least the rejection you get is virtual, not ‘real.’
What takeaway did you get from watching this doc?
HT to roadrunner650 (Ferdinand), TJ Martin, and others who are lost in the blizzard of my email [you know who you are] who sent me the links.
