Notable movie dream sequences
Today’s Daily Dialogue featured the opening dream sequence from Fellini’s movie 8 1/2. In comments, Christian H asked why we don’t see dream sequences more often in movies. You can see my speculation in that thread. But it got me thinking of some of my favorite dream sequences, so I’ve posted a few of them here.
Los Olvidados — Luis Bunuel
Wild Strawberries — Ingmar Bergman
The Big Lebowski — The Coen brothers
The Science of Sleep — Michael Gondry
There are dream sequences. Fantasies. Daydreams. Recurring dreams.
What are some other notable dream sequences?
UPDATE: Bill Martell, who hosts the fantastic screenwriting blog Sex in a Submarine, posted a comment that deserves attention. Martell, who has been running an ongoing series of detailed analyses of Hitchcock movies, notes that this Friday, the movie he’ll be posting about is Spellbound, which has a dream sequence designed by Salvador Dali. Be sure to check it out.
