Pitch Sale: “Lightspeed”

Per Cinematical, Disney buys space adventure pitch “Lightspeed” from writers Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii.

Jerry Bruckheimer Films, in (usual) conjunction with the Disney Movie Machine, has dropped about $3.5 million on a new screenplay by Terry Rossio and Bill Marsilii. The property is called Lightspeed, and according to Variety, the “story centers on a young pilot who makes the Earth Interstellar Racing Team and must take his ship on a perilous journey across the galaxy on the brink of war.” So sort of like Ender’s Game meets Star Wars pod racing? Probably not. Sign me up anyway.

Per Variety, we get a few more facts. First, it’s a pitch, not a spec script. Second, the deal is for “low-seven figures against $3.5 million”:

Sale is remarkable given the climate in which pitches without talent attached have become an aberration. But Rossio has a long history working with Bruckheimer and Disney, having penned some of their biggest box-office hits, including the three “Pirates of the Caribbean” pics. He also did work on Disney/Bruckheimer’s “National Treasure” films.

Of course, Rossio worked on Pirates and Treasure with long-time writing partner Ted Elliott.
