Pitch Sale: “Paths of Glory”

Some GITS synergy at work perhaps? First, we post the movie Orange County as today’s Daily Dialogue and, as reported earlier, its scribe Mike White sells his spec script “Babe in the Woods” to Columbia Pics. Then on the weekend, we featured this interview excerpt with screenwriter Sheldon Turner — and now he sells the pitch “Paths of Glory” to Sony:

Mount Everest hides as many great stories as it does buried bodies. George Mallory was both.

Sony is in final discussions to pick up a pitch from screenwriter Sheldon Turner that would see him adapting Jeffrey Archer’s historical novel, “Paths of Glory,” about the mystery surrounding Mallory’s 1924 ascent, into a feature.

DoneDealPro.com is reporting the deal is finalized.

This is on the heels of Turner selling the pitch”InFAMOUS” last week — also to Sony.

This is one of the nice aspects of screenwriting: the ability to stack up projects. Actors and directors can do that to a limited degree (with the exception of Guillermo del Toro who is booked for the next decade), but a hot screenwriter can book 5 or more projects. 

For example, look at Turner. From my video interview post:

But he [Turner] has a ton of projects in pre-production, and post including Up in the Air (2009/I), The Town (2010), Orbit (2011), The Breathtaker (2010), X-Men Origins: Magneto (2011), The Ritual (2011), Conspiracy of Fools (2011), Two Minutes to Midnight (2010), and 8 other projects in development including “InFAMOUS.”

And now Turner can add “Paths of Glory” to the list.
