Pitch Sale: “The Something”

Universal picks up action-comedy pitch “The Something” from former “Late Show with David Letterman” writer Rodney Rothman:

Universal Pictures has preemptively picked up Rodney Rothman’s pitch The Something for the mid-six figures.

Not much is known about the story except that it is “an ensemble comedy/horror hybrid set in deep space, similar in tone to Sony’s breakout hit Zombieland.”

Per Variety (subscription required), Rothman is repped by UTA and 3 Arts. 

Here’s something unusual: No official talent attachments, almost a requirement nowadays to set up anything original. Suggests the story concept and execution of the story per the pitch is strong. Also doesn’t hurt that it’s ‘similar but different’ to the huge sleeper hit Zombieland which has grossed to dater $102M worldwide.
