Popcorn Fiction: “Mother” by John Brian King

A new short story from screenwriter Derek Haas’ terrific website Popcorn Fiction:

I grew up reading Stephen King, and one of the first books that truly freaked me out was PET SEMATARY. King, Stephen that is, has this way of taking ordinary situations, ordinary relationships, and then terrorizing his characters while making the reader ask “what would I do in that environment?”
There’s a new King in town, and it’s my pleasure to introduce John Brian King to you. I really dug this story about a simple family visit to mother’s apartment for dinner that doesn’t go quite as planned. The author slowly builds up the tension until it bursts and I thoroughly enjoyed the terrifying ride. I should’ve saved this for Mother’s Day, but I couldn’t wait.
