Popcorn Fiction: “The Channels” by Naben Ruthnum
Another Monday morning gift from Popcorn Fiction and its host screenwriter-novelist Derek Haas:
If you’ve kept up with this site at all over the last couple of years, then you know I love a good sci-fi yarn. The best ones, for me, do two things right: they show you a world you haven’t visited before, and they populate that world with characters you recognize…real characters with depth and emotion and courage.
Naben Ruthnum is starting to make a name for himself as a short fiction writer. Reading “The Channels,” you’ll see why. The story focuses on a young girl in an enclosed city who decides to lie down naked in a street. It’s a tiny act of rebellion with enormous consequences. I can’t really tell you more than that…I always fear giving too much away in these emails.
Anyway, check out “The Channels” and let me know your thoughts!
