Quick GITS update
There are a lot of things going on at GIST, here is a quick update:
* “Go Into The Story: The Quest”: I am seeking up to four writers to mentor in a 24-week online screenwriting workshop for free [you can go here to read my post from Monday with details about this initiative]. The submission period begins Tuesday, May 29 and ends Friday, June 8. If some writers get past Producer Scott and qualify, that workshop will run from July 2-December 16, 2012.
* GITS Script Reading & Analysis, Week 20: (500) Days of Summer: That runs from Monday, May 28-Friday, June 1. You may go here to download the script legally from Fox Searchlight, read it, then join us next. It’s not only a romantic comedy, it’s a good example of nonlinear narrative and I would say representative of “po mo” [post-modern] storytelling.
* Live Tweet-Cast: (500) Days of Summer: In conjunction with next week script analysis, we will be doing our 3rd Tweet-Cast on Wednesday, May 30 at 8PM Pacific [U.S.]. Bust out your DVD of the movie or cue it up on Netflix streaming, then at precisely 8PM PDT / 11PM EDT, push play, then follow along on Twitter for the live conversation with screenwriters F. Scott Frazier [@screenwritten], John Gary [@johngary], myself [@GoIntoTheStory] and others. You can comment, you can ask questions, or you can simply follow the movie and the Twitter stream. We’ve done it twice before and it’s awesome!
* The Definitive Spec Script List: 1991–2012: Coming in June, I will be posting the results of a mammoth research initiative on the part of myself and Black List interns Mikal McLendon and Evelyn Yves. I posted about it originally here. Every Monday-Friday for the month, each day I will post all the spec script that sold during a specific year with analysis and commentary. At the end of the month, GITS will then be hosting the definitive list of spec script sales stretching back over two decades.
And of course, all the usual GITS features you have come to expect.
Summertime: Vacation for some. But not for writers looking for an edge in getting ahead. You know where to go for information and inspiration about the craft.
