Sci-Fi high?

Curious I went through the 62 spec script sales thus far in 2011. Sure enough, there are 10 scripts that have some sort of science fiction element:

In 2011, 10 science fiction spec scripts have sold already with 4 months remaining in the year.
Does anyone see a trend here?
So back to Rudolph’s original query: Any idea what triggered this?
I have some thoughts, but I’m curious to see what the GITS community thinks. If indeed science fiction is a genre growing in popularity in Hollywood movie circles, why do you think that is?
