Screenwriting 101: Billy Ray

“When I know what it is I’m going to be writing next, I’ll go out and buy a soundtrack of a movie that has a similar tone to what I’m writing. If it’s an action movie, I’ll get the soundtrack to Speed or something like that. And there will be a couple of weeks where I’m just driving around, listening to that soundtrack, and the movie starts to coalesce, it starts to fall into my head. And that’s a really exciting time.”
