Screenwriting Master Class: First Draft and Rewrite Courses
First off, some good news: Two Screenwriting Master Class writers have made it to the semifinal stage of the Austin Film Festival screenplay competition. I will provide more information when the finalists are announced toward the end of the month, but I’m sure we all have our virtual fingers crossed on their behalf.
For those of you who have a new story you want to write or a draft of a script you know needs work, you have an opportunity to work with Tom Benedek or myself starting next Monday, September 12, as we are teaching a pair of 10-week writing workshops:
Pages I: The First Draft: In this 10-week online workshop, you will use a series of writing assignments to pound out pages and push you from FADE IN to FADE OUT.
* While you churn out script pages, you will learn the self-discipline of meeting deadlines, a crucial and necessary skill to have to be a professional writer.
* Workshop your story by submitting your pages for constructive criticism from your instructor and fellow writers.
Pages II: Rewriting Your Script: In this 10-week online workshop, you will identify problems in your existing draft, work out solutions, and rewrite your script toward its final draft.
* While you push your story to become its best, you will develop the critical analysis skills necessary to work as a professional writer.
* Workshop your story by submitting your pages for constructive criticism from your instructor and fellow writers.
Each class includes teleconferences where the instructor and writers discuss in detail your story and script pages.
We only started offering these workshops in January and they have already proved successful with numerous writers completing their scripts and rewrites, and some, as noted above, making discernable progress in their screenwriting careers.
