Screenwriting Master Class: Your Feedback Wanted
As Tom Benedek and I continue to roll out our online writing resource Screenwriting Master Class, we have several content areas we’re considering and would appreciate your feedback:
* Live Webinars: Since Tom and I know a lot of industry professionals, we have been researching a way to do live webinars with Tom and Hollywood guests based in L.A. and me connected via Skype. Would you be interested in participating in something like that? What type of industry professionals would you most want to hear discuss the business? How important is it to you to be able to direct questions to Tom, myself and our guests in these live video sessions?
* Craft: In the next few months, we will be introducing special 1-week online Craft classes that focus on specific areas of screenwriting. Here are some of the preliminary courses we are working up: Narrative Techniques, Handling Exposition, The First 10 Pages, Character Introductions. Price: $95. Each class would involve 6 lectures (written), interactive daily forum feedback, and a 1-hour teleconference with instructor and participants. Would you be interested in these type of courses? What subject areas would you like to see covered in a 1-week class this?
* Prep: In addition to the 6-week “Prep: From Concept to Outline” workshop, we are considering adding a 2-week “Character Development” course. Price: $195. Using principles related to the five primary character archetypes — Protagonist, Nemesis, Attractor, Mentor, Trickster — Tom or myself would work with each class member over the course of two weeks to dig into their story’s primary characters, understand their respective narrative functions, determine their individual goals, dig into their psychological makeup, and develop a sense of their individual personalities. Is this something you would be interested in signing up for?
These ideas are part of our overall goal with Screenwriting Master Class: To create one site where a writer can learn a comprehensive and coherent approach to screenwriting theory and practice (our Core and Craft courses), and use workshops (Prep and Pages) to develop, write, and rewrite their scripts.
