Spec Script Deal: “Mother”

Netflix acquires action thriller spec script “Mother” written by Misha Green. From Deadline:

Several bidders chased this script that has a female protagonist in a scenario reminiscent of The Professional and La Femme Nikita that has franchise potential.

Reps sent out the script with Wonder Woman hitting theaters this weekend. Smart move. Ends up being a reported seven figure deal.

Green is repped by CAA.

By my count, this is 32nd spec script deal of 2017.

There were 28 spec script deals year-to-date in 2016.

This represents a 14% increase in deals this year compared to last.
