Spec Script Deals Analysis 2014: Top Sales

Continuing our week long analysis of spec script sales from 2014, today we look at the deals with the biggest payoffs (at least as reported by various news outlets):

Mena — Crime Drama
Gary Spinelli — $1M plus a blind script commitment

Winter’s Night — Adventure Fantasy
Ben Lustig and Jake Thornton — $1M

Vacation Friends — Comedy
Tim Mullen and Tom Mullen — Near seven figures

Yellowstone Falls — Action Drama
Daniel Kunka — Bidding war, six figures against near seven-figures

Shadow Run — Action Thriller
Joe Gazzam — High six figures

A Better Place — Thriller
Brad Ingelsby — Mid-against-high six figures

The Eden Project — Science Fiction
Christina Hodson — $750K

Matriarch — Thriller
Eric Koenig — Mid-six figures

ARES — Action Adventure Science Fiction
Michael Starrbury — Mid-six figures

Berliner — Action Spy Thriller
F. Scott Frazier — $400K against $750K

The Bringing — Horror
Brandon Murphy and Philip Murphy — $300K against $700K

Terrestrial — Science Fiction
Peter Gaffney — Low six figures

There were three other projects that were preemptive purchases:

Terminal Point, written by Stuart C. Paul, Untitled Arabian Nights Project, written by David Weill, and A Man Called Death, written by Matthew Kennedy.

While the number of overall spec script deals may have decreased in 2014 compared to the previous year, the total of top sales was the same.
