Spec Script Sale: “Acolyte”

Voltage Pictures acquires action thriller spec script “Acolyte” from first time screenwriter Derek Kolstad. From Variety:

“Acolyte” centers on a rogue government agency that’s using blackmail to coerce everyday citizens into committing acts of domestic terror. The agency mistakenly kidnaps the wife of a retired operative who responds by recruiting a disbanded group of trained “associates” to exact revenge and rescue his wife.

Kolstad is repped by UTA and New Wave Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 63rd spec script to sell in 2012.

There were 46 spec script sales by this date last year.

The 63rd spec sale didn’t happen last year until August 31.

Spec script sales are up 27% year-to-date compared to 2011.
