Spec Script Sale: “Black River”

Black Forest Film Group acquires psychological thriller spec “Black River” from writer Ransom Riggs. From Variety:

“Black River” follows a small-town girl who has been haunted by a dead girl’s spirit ever since her own near-fatal accident. When she goes off to college and her friends begin to die, she must uncover the dark secret of the dead girl’s fate.

20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment are developing a feature adaptation of Riggs’ debut novel “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,” which Tim Burton is attached to direct from a script by Jane Goldman (“X-Men: First Class”). In addition to finishing the highly anticipated sequel to “Miss Peregrine’s,” Riggs has sold his next book series, “Arcanum,” to Little, Brown Books.

Seems to be an increasing number of writers who are successfully working both screenplays and novels.

Writer is repped by Heroes and Villains Entertainment, and Paradigm.

Spec sales are up 37% year-to-date compared to 2011.
