Spec Script Sale: “Cristo”
Warner Bros. with a preemptive purchase of the science fiction adventure script “Cristo” from writer Ian Shorr. Via First Showing:
Warner Bros. has picked up a script from Ian Shorr (Splinter) called Cristo, which takes Alexandre Dumas’ classic adventure novel The Count of Monte Cristo into a futuristic setting.
A logline via DDP:
A man is unlawfully sentenced to an infamous prison and escapes, then transforms himself into the mysterious Cristo and systematically destroys the men who manipulated and enslaved him.
This is a case of genre bending by shifting the period piece into the future.
Shorr is represented by UTA and Benderspink.
By my count, this is the 45th spec script to sell in 2011.
The 45th spec script didn’t sell in 2010 until October 18th which means sales are up significantly this year.
