Spec Script Sale: “Empire”

New Regency acquires thriller spec script “Empire” written by Ben Ripley. From THR:

The logline for “Empire” is being kept under wraps, but it is described as being in the style of Safe House and The Usual Suspects.

Ripley, who wrote Source Code, is repped by Gersh and Mosaic.

By my count, this is the 94th spec script sale in 2012.

At this point last year, there were 106 spec sales.

Spec script sales are down 13% year-to-date compared to 2011.
