Spec Script Sale: “God Particle”

Paramount acquires science fiction spec script “God Particle” from writer Oren Uziel. From FilmFunds:

The script is set after a physics experiment with a large hadron accelerator causes the Earth to seemingly vanish completely. The terrified crew of an orbiting American space station is left floating in the middle of now-even-more-empty space. When a European spacecraft appears on their radar, the Americans must determine whether it’s their salvation, or a harbinger of doom.

According to Vulture Bad Robots [J.J. Abrams] may be involved as producer. Studio plans to shoot the movie for under $5M, more in the vein of their microbudget division Insurge.

Uziel has written two scripts which made the Black List: “Shimmer Lake” [2009] and “The Kitchen Sink” [2010].

He is repped by WME’s and Circle of Confusion.

By my count, this is the 56th spec script sale of 2012.

There were 43 spec sales at this time last year.

The 56th spec sale didn’t happen last year until July 22.

Spec script sales are up 23% year-to-date compared to 2011.
