Spec Script Sale: “Leonardo”
Universal Pictures acquires action-adventure spec script “Leonardo” from writer Jonny Kurzman. From Variety:
Story is focused on da Vinci’s quest to stop Renaissance Europe from returning to the Dark Ages.
It’s another case of ‘similar but different’ as compare to this:
Another project exploring the genius of the youthful Da Vinci is also in the works at the Starz pay cable network. “Da Vinci’s Demons,” from BBC Worldwide, picks up the inventor’s life at age 25. David Goyer scripted the pilot and is showrunner. The series has an eight-episode commitment from Starz and is targeted for a 2013 premiere.
Kurzman is repped by Rochelle Stevens & Co. and Circle of Confusion.
By my count, this is the 91st spec script sale in 2011.
In 2010, only 55 spec scripts sold.
In 2009, only 68 spec scripts sold.
Spec script sales are up 86% year-to-date over last year.
