Spec Script Sale: “Lights Out”
Universal / Syfy Films acquires science fiction thriller “Lights Out” from writer Jay Frasco. Per Deadline:
The story focuses on an teenage boy trapped in his house with his sister when a deadly intruder enters the home, and mysterious events occur during the captivity.
In an interesting side note, Frasco had written the story as a novel, but while “waiting to hear from publishers, [he] adapted his manuscript into the screenplay and has notched his first spec sale.”
Frasco is repped by APA and Festa Entertainment.
By my count, this is the 69th spec script sale in 2012.
There were 62 spec script sales by this time last year.
The 69th spec script didn’t sell last year until September 27th.
Spec script sales are up 10% year-to-date compared to 2011.
