Spec Script Sale: “Slayer”

Legendary Pictures acquires fantasy action spec script “Slayer” from writer Martin Helgeland. From THR:

“Slayer” is described as a modern-day story about a young doctor whose estranged father dies and he finds out the old man was a dragon and creature slayer. The doctor must become a slayer too.

And there’s this:

The script is written by Martin Helgeland, the son of Brian Helgeland, a veteran scribe whose credits range from L.A. Confidential to Man on Fire. The younger Helgeland is a student at Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles and this is his first script.

Modern day dragon slayer. An audacious idea for a first script.

Helgeland is repped by WME.

By my count, this is the 28th spec script sale of 2012.

There had been 20 spec sales by this date last year.

Spec script sales are up 40% year-to-date compared to 2011.
