Spec Script Sale: “Straight Edge”
Silver Pictures acquires action spec script “Straight Edge” written by Rich Wilkes. From THR:
“Edge” is an Los Angeles-set actioner that revolves around a heist gone wrong and follows a slew of colorful characters, ranging from corrupt cops to Southland gang members.
Those who have read the script describe it as hearkening back to the edginess of 48 Hours and Lethal Weapon, both early Silver hits, and the attitude of cult hit Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
I’ve been pimping the idea that action-comedies like Lethal Weapon are poised to come back, counterprogramming to all the dark, edgy content that’s out there combined with the growing international market attracted to visually-driven narratives. Maybe I’m right.
Deal was a pre-emptive acquisition.
Wilkes is repped by Verve.
By my count, this is the 88th spec script sale in 2012.
At this point last year, there were 98 spec sales.
Spec script sales are down 11% year-to-date compared to 2011.
