Chernin Entertainment acquires rom-com spec script “The Beard” from writer Becca Greene. Via THR:

…title refers to a member of the opposite sex — usually a woman — who acts as a date for a gay person, giving the illusion the person isn’t gay. Story details were not revealed.

Greene repped by CAA and MXN.

By my count, this is the 67th spec script sale of 2012.

There were 60 spec script sales by this time last year.

The 67th spec script didn’t sell last year until September 21st.

Spec script sales are up 10% year-to-date compared to 2011.
