Spec Script Sale: “The Incredible True Story of Jessica & Drew Who Accidentally Boned on the Way to the Wedding”

Fox 2000 acquires comedy spec script “The Incredible True Story of Jessica & Drew Who Accidentally Boned on the Way to the Wedding” from writers Erin Simon & Kimberly Karp. Per THR:

The story centers on two people who, while on the way to a destination wedding and with other partners on their minds, hook up and fall in love.

There is a history of lengthy spec script titles in Hollywood, but this one ranks right up there at the top with 16 words and 1 ampersand. And if one of our tasks as screenwriters is to let the reader know as soon as possible what the story’s genre is, Simon & Karp get bonus points because we know the story is a comedy even before we get to FADE IN.

[I believe the record for the longest title has to be the Adam Herz spec script “Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy Which Can Be Made for Under $10 Million Which Studio Readers Will Hate But We Think You Will Love”. It sold for $750K and was renamed American Pie].

By my count, there has been 1 spec script sale this year.

In 2011, the first spec script sale occurred on January 21st, so sales are 15 days ahead of last year’s pace.

Could this be a good sign for 2012?
