Spec Script Sale: “Thirteen”

Universal with preemptive acquisition of supernatural thriller spec script “Thirteen” from writer Benjamin Magid. From Variety:

“Thirteen” centers on possession and is understood to utilize a mixture of found-footage point of views. The story is reminiscent of 1990’s “Flatliners,” which starred Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland as medical school students experimenting with the line between life and death.

Three things:

* Flatliners was a spec script that sold for pretty big bucks.

* Story dealing with demon possession. Found footage. Hm. Think the success of The Devil Inside helped prime the pump for this sale?

* And then there’s the following:

By my count, this is the 8th spec script sale in 2012.

Last year at this time, there had been 1 spec script sale.

My math skills aren’t what they used to be and please correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t that mean sales are up 800% this year?
