Spec Script Sale: “Until Death”

Screen Gems acquires thriller spec script “Until Death” from first-time screenwriter Calvin Starnes. From Variety:

A first-time screenwriter who most recently was doing grip work on “Horrible Bosses” has sold thriller script “Until Death” to Screen Gems, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura on board to produce.

Calvin Starnes will also do a rewrite on his own script. Plot details are vague, but sources describe the pic as a female-driven thriller in the vein of “The Town.”

Always great to see first-time screenwriters sell a spec.

Starnes is repped by CAA and Circle of Confusion.

By my count, this is the 45th spec script sale of 2012.

There were 37 spec sales last year at this time.

The 45th spec script didn’t sell last year until June 16.

Spec sales are up 22% year-to-date compared to 2011.
