Spec Script Sale: “Untitled Ashley Bradley Project”

Disney acquires an untitled detective drama spec script from writer Ashley Bradley. Per THR:

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the project revolves around a young woman who finds out she is the descendant of a legendary detective and is forced to take up the sleuthing mantle.

The descendant of. How many movies have been made with that conceit? Son or daughter? Grandson or granddaughter? It sets up a great dynamic because there is this ‘shadow’ hanging over the Protagonist, almost as if the weight of destiny pressing down on them, and a central question: Will they be able to pull off what their antecedents did?

Bradley is repped by WME and New Wave Entertainment.

Sale date: 9/27/11.

By my count, this is the 73rd spec script to sell in 2011.

Only 55 spec scripts sold last year.

Spec script sales are up 70% year-to-date over 2010.
