Spec Script Sale: Untitled McCormick Cop Comedy

Universal acquires an untitled cop comedy from writer Blake McCormick. From Variety:

The pic follows two best friends who following a costume party dressed as cops are mistaken as real officers and forced to bring a dangerous criminal back to the station.

This is a great high concept comedy. It’s one of those ideas where you can see the movie. The deal once again proves the value of working with a strong concept. If you craft a solid, funny script with a central idea as commercially viable as this, you’ve got a good chance to make things happen.

McCormick is repped by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone.

By my count, this is the 72nd spec script sale in 2012.

There were 66 spec script sales by this time last year.

The 72nd spec script didn’t sell last year until October 3rd.

Spec script sales are up 8% year-to-date compared to 2011.
