Spec Script Sale: “Viral”

Producer Ian Bryce acquires action thriller spec script “Viral” from writer Dustin T. Benson. From FilmFunds:

The story is told from the 1st person point of view via the helmet cam of a bio-safety suit, and centers on a scientist who joins an extraction team through quarantined areas of Manhattan, while secretly searching for her missing daughter. It’s I am Legend meets Outbreak.

Benson is repped by UTA and Energy Entertainment.

By my count, this is the 65th spec script sale of 2012.

There were 54 spec script sales at this time last year.

The 65th spec script didn’t sell last year until September 8th.

Spec script sales are up 17% year-to-date compared to 2011.
