Spec Script Sale: “Wake Cycle”
Boss Media acquires science fiction spec script “Wake Cycle” from writers Christian Cantamessa and Chris Pasetto. From Variety:
Pic takes place in an underground hyperbaric facility, where the world’s greatest scientists are placed after a nuclear fallout. “Wake Cycle” refers to the available air every six months that allows two custodial workers to maintain the facility — but when one of their sleep tanks is damaged, they engage in a life-and-death struggle.
Sounds like a contained thriller. And if you haven’t been paying attention, sci-fi is a hot genre in the acquisition market — spec scripts, pitches, novels, and so on.
By my count, this is the 79th spec script to sell this year.
Only 55 spec scripts sold in 2010.
Only 68 spec scripts sold in 2009.
87 spec scripts sold in 2008.
Spec script sales are up 72% year-to-date compared to last year.
