Suggestion City
It occurred to me there are a lot of series here on GITS which could use your suggestions, some for which I solicit requests regularly (Daily Dialogue) and some infrequently.
So here is a catch-all post to allow you to suggest away to your heart’s content on several GITS fronts:
* Daily Dialogue theme: Next week’s theme is “cop meets crook.” What other themes would you like to explore in future weeks?
* Script To Screen: Think of an interesting scene from a movie, one which I can embed from MovieClips or YouTube. If I can find a script online, we can compare how the filmmakers translated what was on the page to what ended up on the screen.
* Great Characters: What movie characters have made an impact on your imagination? Memorable Protagonists or Nemeses. Love interests. Wisdom figures. Comic relief.
* The Business of Screenwriting: If there are topics you’d like to see me cover that I haven’t already hit — you can check out previous TBPOS posts here — feel free to post your idea, and I’ll see if I have anything relevant to say.
* Reader Questions: It’s about time for me to open the floor to your questions about anything related to screenwriting. If you don’t see a subject covered here, post your question here, and I will be happy to provide my two cents worth.
* Screenwriter Interviews: I’m going to post something on this specifically later this week, but if you had a wish list of screenwriters you’d like to see interviewed here on GITS, including the opportunity to pose your own questions to them, your suggestions welcome. Can’t promise anything, but there’s no reason for us not to reach out to screenwriters to see if they’d be willing to share their insights about the craft.
* Movie Story Types: I recently ran several weeks’ worth of posts about different types of movies (e.g., Found Footage, Ticking Clock, Assumed Identity). If there are movie story types you don’t see covered here, post a suggestion. Making these a part of your brainstorming process can be incredibly helpful.
* Script Reading & Analysis: What genres are you interested in? Sub-genres? Cross genres? Story types? Specific movie scripts? Screenwriters? You can see scripts we have covered here. What other scripts would you be motivated to read and analyze?
* Friends List: Hey, I finally went through all the Friends links from the old site, found the ones that are still active, and have put them up. If I’ve missed anyone or you would like to be added to the list, please post your URL.
* Movies You Made: We’re right in the middle of featuring your movies, so if you have a short film or feature length film for which you have an embeddable version or trailer, here’s your chance to get some free PR.
* GITS Site Suggestions: Finally I’m open to any/all suggestions you might have for the site. For instance, did you like our live-blogging event? That arose from suggestions by you! Would you like to do another one? Do you have other ideas for things we could do here to add to the community experience? Or any ideas at all, let me know.
While I oversee the activity here, I have always considered GITS to be a community effort. So I both encourage and want your input. We are drawn here by similar interests — writing, movies, TV, creativity. The more we share what we know on those fronts and what we want to know, the better for each of us and the GITS community as a whole.
