Suggestions for Great Characters?
We got such a great response from GITS readers for this week’s Daily Dialogue theme request — insults — I figure it’s good for another 7 days. Following that we’ll go with the the theme that came in second in the balloting last week — understatements — which you are free to post suggestions here.
But seeing as today’s Great Character (Don Logan from Sexy Beast) was suggested by GITS reader Jason, I thought why not open up that series for suggestions?
Here’s what I try to do: Not only come up with memorable movie characters, but ones who are good examples of five major archetypes — Protagonist, Nemesis, Attractor, Mentor, Trickster.
I’m especially keen to post unusual or off-the-nose instances. For example, I was thinking next week of spotlighting Wilson in Cast Away as an interesting version of an Attractor character.
But that’s just one angle on the series. Obviously is you think Rocky Balboa is the greatest Protagonist figure around, please feel free to suggest him, too.
The main point of the series is to highlight the amazing variety of characters who habituate movies throughout history.
So feel to suggest away: Who are some notable Great Characters and why?
