“The Avengers”: What did you think?

Unless you’ve been living in a cave, you must be aware that The Avengers debuted in the United States and Canada this weekend, smashing the record for the biggest B.O. opening weekend ever with an astonishing $200.3M [estimated]. Combined with sales in international markets, the movie has already grossed nearly $642M.

Those of you who have seen it, what did you think?

Apart from the obvious marketing bonanza of aggregating multiple Marvel superheroes in one movie, is there anything about the story you think worked especially well?

Any screenwriting tips you can glean from the movie, other than doing a virtual Vulcan mind meld with Joss Whedon [yes, I know I’m mixing movie franchises]?

Do you think the movie will energize the superhero subgenre, one that had been spotty the last few years? Or is it a one-off success that will have negligible impact on other superhero movies this summer or in the future?
