“The Beaver” and “Harvey”

Once again, I’m traveling so I won’t be able to get to my final script takeaway series re “The Beaver” for a couple of days. But as I was reading through the comments, it suddenly struck me: Isn’t “The Beaver” very much like the 1950 movie Harvey (1950)?

Here’s the IMDB description:

The classic stage hit gets the Hollywood treatment in the story of Elwood P. Dowd who makes friends with a spirit taking the form of a human-sized rabbit named Harvey that only he sees (and a few privileged others on occasion also.) After his sister tries to commit him to a mental institution, a comedy of errors ensues.

Different type of comedies, “The Beaver” certainly more ‘modern’ in feel. But the basic premise is just about the same.

So at the risk of beating an ‘imaginary’ horse to death by keeping the conversation going about “The Beaver,” how would you compare it to Harvey?

BTW, Harvey is currently ranked #179 in the IMDB top 250 movies of all time.
