The Genre-Thon Project: Your Suggestions Wanted!

So I had this crazy idea:

What if every so often here at GITS, we do a 1-week / 7-script read-a-thon, but — and here’s the hook — all the scripts are in one genre. Action, comedy, thriller, sci-fi, etc. Could even be narrower: Dark Comedy, Romantic Comedy, Hard Action, Action Adventure, and so on.

The point is by reading 7 scripts in one genre or sub-genre, you really get to drill down into the essence of each story area. Plus you’d see structural and thematic patterns emerge like you’ve never quite seen before.

After getting lots of positive feedback from folks, I think we should do this, perhaps every six weeks. And make it 6 scripts in the week, one each day with public comments, and the 7th day being a chance for us to discuss any macro insights we got into the genre as a whole.

I’ve already suggested one genre: Romantic Comedy. What other genres interest you? Let’s compile a list and next week, I’ll put them up for a vote. Whichever gets the highest total will be the genre for our first Genre-Thon. Then I’ll take suggestions for scripts. We’ll pick the top 6 and kick things off on Monday, October 4th-Sunday October 10th.
