The GITS Club
Back in January of this year, we started a free script peer review site called The GITS Club. And by “we,” I mean Jeff Messerman. The idea was to provide an online environment in which writers could post written material for review by a group of peers. The current categories related specifically to one’s writing are:
Completed Drafts
Plotting
Character Work
Scenes for Review
Entire Acts
Loglines
So instead of mulling over in your own head whether your story is working or not, you can share it — at any stage of development — with other writers to get their feedback.
When Jeff and I talked about TGC, we agreed on three goals: (1) TGC should be about constructive criticism. That is members should provide an honest assessment of material they review, but they also should be expected to offer suggestions to make the story better. (2) TGC should be about critiquing the story, not the writer. (3) TGC should be a supportive environment, not inflammatory or demeaning to individual writers (those of you who have been members of other peer review sites online will know what I’m talking about).
And so The GITS Club launched. Here we are six months later and there are currently 298 members. The growth of the site surprised us, so much so that some months back, we brought on Mike Scherer to be a co-moderator of TGC (along with Jeff). Mike and Jeff have done a fantastic job managing the site.
If you haven’t checked out The GITS Club, why don’t you go here for a visit. Neither Jeff, Mike, or I have any desire to turn TGC into some mammoth thing. Rather I simply want to make those of you who are new to the GoIntoTheStory community or perhaps have been tentative about a peer review site that TGC is a terrific resource for feedback — and a supportive creative environment.
Finally thanks again to Jeff and Mike for all your hard work in moderating TGC. And congratulations to all 298 of you who are members. May your own hard work in having the courage to post your stories as well as actively provide feedback to others’ written material pay off in a big fat spec script sale!
