The GITS Club news: Welcome a new moderator!
It was back around the start of the New Year that Jeff Messerman approached me about creating a GITS peer review site. I listened to Jeff’s ideas about creating a place where writers could go to receive honest, informed feedback on their writing in a supportive environment — and immediately saw it as a natural extension of the emerging GITS community.
So The GITS Club was created, albeit with minimal fanfare and a series of question marks as to what could be expected to happen. I think it’s safe to say that what has transpired there in less than two months is pretty amazing, not only in terms of people joining (currently 170 members), but the amount and quality of the participation. I get emails almost daily from TGC members telling me how great of a creative environment it is and how helpful it is to be able to share one’s pages with other writers — and the reason for that success thus far is because of each of you who participate there as well as the oversight provided by the site’s founder and moderator Jeff M.
With the site’s rapid expansion and Jeff’s recent good news, it became apparent we needed another moderator. Therefore I’m happy to announce that longtime GITS reader Mike Scherer will share the oversight responsibilities at TGC with Jeff. I asked Mike for a blurb about his background and interest in screenwriting to help introduce himself to the larger community and here is what he wrote:
I’ve been writing screenplays for nine years, but took an eighteen month hiatus along the way. It was at that point I realized that I just could NOT, not write. To date I have finished ten screenplays, the first of which will NEVER see the light of day. My genres of choice are action/adventure and thrillers, although I have a sci-fi comedy in the works if I can scavenge enough courage to take a stab at being funny. This last weekend I started my eleventh script, tentatively titled The Blackridge Pawn. My pitch? The Manchurian Candidate meets The Bourne Identity.
As for peer review? I have found the members at GITS Club insightful, talented, and more than willing to help. To stretch a metaphor, when I have been lost in the woods for a long time — immersed in writing and rewriting, and rewriting, and rewriting a screenplay — I can no longer see the forest for the trees. The folks over at GITS Club have shown me the error of my ways on more than one occasion.
Those of you who have been visiting this blog for any length of time are likely familiar with Mike. He applies himself to the craft of screenwriting with remarkable diligence — witness his signature line, “Keep writing!” — and he’s a great guy as well. So I’m quite happy Mike has agreed to be a moderator at TGC.
