Tool: “Forty Six & Two”

For those who want an interesting take on the concept of the shadow, here is a song by Tool called “Forty Six & Two” complete with commentary and lyrics that feature some of C.G. Jung’s ideas:

If you look at a movie as a Protagonist’s psychological journey, the story exists — on at least one level — to force the P to confront the shadow aspects of their own psyche.

“Everyone carries a shadow,” Jung says.

If you are writing a script and you’re not digging into your Protagonist’s shadow, you’re likely missing out on untold dramatic possibilities.

UPDATE: Whoa, synchronicity at work. Gabe Gomes, a talented writer from Brazil who I’ve had the pleasure to work with in some online screenwriting classes, posted this video clip:

It’s the Fibonacci sequence in the band Tool’s song “Laterlus.” So you’ve got the shadow tied into character development in one song and the mind-blowing phenomenon which is Fibonacci tied to structure.

All I can say is, “Rock on!”
